A World of Energy

Biofuel

The move to a new biofuel economy is going to take time, changes in lifestyles and some patience. It’s going to take time to build out infrastructure to support biofuels. Vehicles will need to be designed with the ability to use multiple fuel sources. Some vehicles are capable of using multiple fuels now but in many cases it’s not convenient to find biofuels or it’s just not available.

Biofuel is a broad category and tends to lump together energy derived from animal innards to soybeans and seemingly everything in between. Three fuels seem to lead the biofuels race, two of which, ethanol and biodiesel, are actually in use around the world. The third, cellulosic ethanol, is still in the development stages.

According to the experts cellulosic ethanol could replace significant amounts of oil. But that’s not going to happen unless private and public sectors demand it and political leadership finds the courage to implement the required policy. It is going to take individuals - that’s you and me - who are willing to change how we consume energy.
